No, but replace the dust boot quickly (original spares are available).
The boot keeps dirt out of the shock’s seal; without it, dust will wear the rod and cause leaks. If the boot is lost, cover the rod with a temporary rubber sleeve until the original boot arrives.
If the seal is already dirty (rod sticks), then replace the whole shock.
